WEDDING UPDATES

Greetings to one and all! October 17th is nearly upon us, and a lot of folks have been asking about the logistical details. Here is some information about our gift registry, lodging in the area, directions, etc. Please feel free to e-mail us (Josh or Amelia) with any questions, and we can't wait to see you at the wedding!

IMPORTANT NOTE: GUESTS
Our wedding will be a small, intimate gathering of friends and family. Children are very welcome, but please understand that space is limited and we cannot accommodate additional adult guests.

GIFT REGISTRY
We're registered at:
Williams Sonoma (essential cooking supplies)
REI (essential camping/backpacking supplies)
Heifer International (donating livestock to build self-sustaining third world communities)
We would also love donations on our behalf to Edge of Existence, but their site doesn't have a registry option so folks will have to try to figure out how to do this on their own.

LODGING
We recommend staying at the San Leandro Hilton Garden Inn, which is about a mile from our house, near the Bayfair BART station, and right next to the freeway. If you give them group code "JAW" there's a discounted rate of $79 per night, and they also offer a free shuttle to and from the airport and to and from any location within 5 miles of the hotel (e.g. our house), so it's a pretty fantastic deal.

DIRECTIONS TO THE WEDDING
Both the wedding and reception will take place at Fern Cottage in Kennedy Grove Recreational Area in El Sobrante. Here is the location in Google Maps; you can specify a starting address for driving directions. Broadly speaking, take I-80 east from Berkeley/Oakland, take the San Pablo Dam Road exit, turn right at the light, then follow the road for 4.4 miles. Turn left into the park at the Kennedy Grove sign.

PARKING
There is plenty of parking at the site, and both parking and entry into the park will most likely be free. There is a slight possibility, however, that the Parks Department will decide to station someone at the kiosk on our wedding day, in which case there will be a $5 entrance fee.

News 1/10/09

We have officially bought our honeymoon plane tickets! We'll be flying into Budapest on 10/18 and staying for three weeks. We hope to explore the coast and inland of Croatia and also stop in Venice, or possibly Prague, during that time.

Our colors are going to be cranberry, pumpkin and gold, and the bridesmaids' dresses will likely be cranberry. The dress search continues...

11/11/2008

We have officially chosen the site and the date! We'll be getting married on Saturday, October 17th, 2009 at Fern Cottage in the Kennedy Grove Park in Berkeley. It will likely be a late morning wedding and early afternoon reception.

Also selected are our Best Man, Adam Parrish and Maid of Honor, Abigail Ganje. Our flower girls will be Makenzie and Gianna Ganje.

Our Vision:

Our wedding will be an intimate gathering of family and close friends. We want this to be a homemade wedding to the extent that it is possible: less energy put into maintaining the wedding industry, and more into starting our new life together in a meaningful way. We're hoping for a short, meaningful ceremony, tasty, local food, and a bit-o-dancing.

THE DATE: 10/17/09
Amelia, the numbers nerd, holds this date as significant for a number of reasons, some truly too embarrassing to get into. So maybe just these: she was born at 10:17, and October 17th is the closest Saturday to our anniversary, 10/13/07.

THE SITE
Fern Cottage in Kennedy Grove Regional Recreational Area is a peaceful and cozy place, surrounded by trees and (surprise!) ferns. The ceremony will be held outside in a eucalyptus grove, with the reception to follow indoors.

THE DRESS
Amelia has made some decisions about her dress. Check out what's happening on the bride page. Email amelia@joshandamelia.com for the username and password.
